Areas of Practice
Clay Miller advises businesses and individuals on a variety of regulatory and transactional issues, with a focus on matters involving utilities, appeals and estate planning and administration.
Utilities
I represent clients before the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission, state and federal trial courts, and appellate tribunals. My clients have included utilities, municipalities, developers, a trade association, a statewide telecommunications authority and advocacy groups.
Wills, Trusts & Estates
I counsel individuals, couples and families regarding the transfer of assets to intended beneficiaries through wills, trusts and other means. Also, I assist with estate administration and provide advance healthcare directives.
Appellate
Judges aren’t perfect. After a trial or administrative proceeding, a disappointed party may be left wondering how the tribunal could rule against them. If the stakes are high enough, it may be worth it for a party to pursue an appeal. Whether you are a disappointed party, or you received a favorable outcome which the other side has decided to appeal, I can help you evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the underlying decision, identify potential points that might resonate with an appellate court and then craft arguments to make the case for upholding or reversing the underlying decision.
